About
Hadijah Alicia Munting

Exploring a diversity of textures and mediums while studying at East Sydney Technical College inspired me to continue with a plethora of amazing courses including: Julian Ashton Art School, Drawing with pencil, Botanical drawing, Folk art classes, Silver Jewellery, Polymer clay jewellery, Resin jewellery and Resin jewellery advanced.

My jewellery design ideas come from a love of nature and the changes that accompany each season.

Part of my early childhood was spent growing up in Yorkeys Knob in Queensland. I attended a school with only one teacher and nineteen students, and on particularly hot and humid days, the whole school would head off to the mangroves. I remember so vividly the cool water and distinctive smells with the mud between my toes giving me my first love of the natural world - a feeling that is still with me today. Using recycled coffee pods on recycled canvas seems a fitting way to continue this story. Both my works Low Tide - Black Mangrove and Low Tide - Grey Mangrove stem from those memories.

My journey into reusing coffee capsules as a medium began with a desire to create art that has minimal environmental impact. With their luminous hues and malleability I see an opportunity to create something beautiful out of waste.
I hope to capture imagination through my works in a way that inspires audiences into active conservation, to re-create, reduce and reconnect, thus enabling both to pay tribute to the natural world.
