Did you know – THE GLOSSY BLACK COCKATOO populations have been declining mostly due to land clearing that have removed the trees they use for a food source and nesting sites. It is one of the more threatened species of cockatoo in Australia and is declared vulnerable in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and endangered in South Australia and across Australia.
THE PELICAN – something unusual about our populations of coastal pelicans is that baby pelicans, are never seen. This is because pelicans’ nest far away in inland or remote locations in large breeding colonies. Life span in the wild 10 – 25 years.

Paula and Bridgette Powers have been rescuing and treating Pelicans and sea birds on the Sunshine Coast for more than 16 years. In that time the Twinnies have helped thousands of birds from numerous species across the coast. With their rehabilitation facilities and community training done with Queensland schools.
SUPERB FAIRY WREN – crowned 2021 Australian Bird of the year winner. Narrowly defeating the tawny frogmouth in a nail-biting finish. The winner of the Guardian Australia/Bird life poll was announced on Friday after more than 4000,000 votes were cast during the 10-day competition 8th October 2021.

THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO – or Way of St. James is the pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.
The Way (Portuguese: Caminho Portugues) begins at Lisbon or Porto in Portugal. From Porto, along the Douro River, pilgrims travel north crossing the Ave, Cavado, Lima and Minho rivers before entering Spain and then passing through Padron before arriving at Santiago.
INLAND TAIPAN - Often cited as the world's most venomous snake, the Inland Taipan is far from the most dangerous. Unlike its congener, the common and fiery - tempered Coastal Taipan, this shy serpent is relatively placid and rarely encountered in its remote, semi-arid homeland.

BROLGA - BURRALGA, GAMILARAAY - DARE TO DANCE - The brolga symbolises creativity, especially dance and self-expression. Although the brolga is not considered endangered over most of its range, populations are showing some decline, especially in Southern Australia, and action plans are being undertaken in some areas. The brolga has featured on the Queensland coat of arms since 1977 and was formally declared as the bird emblem of the state in 1986
